Can I get a bigger image than my screen?

Yes. The render is done off-screen at the resolution you ask for, so the output is not limited by your window size.

Why does my model look faceted?

STL approximates curves with flat triangles. A model exported at a coarse tolerance shows its facets at every angle, and no amount of rendering can recover a curve that was never stored.

Your graphics hardware does the work, so a dense mesh renders in about the time it takes to appear rather than being queued somewhere.

Transparency is per-pixel

With the background off, the PNG has a real alpha channel and composites cleanly over any colour. That is what you want for a catalogue page whose background you have not decided on yet.
