Drop videos and photos onto V1, or press Add clips. Drag a clip left or right to reorder it and drag its edges to trim; everything after it moves up. Select a clip to choose the transition into it, or to turn it. Drop a video or picture on V2 or a higher track and it sits on the picture: drag it there to place it, drag its corner to resize it. A clip's sound sits on its paired audio track, linked: select the clip and press Detach audio to edit the two apart. Mute on an audio track silences every clip that plays through it. Add video track and Add audio track make more. Ctrl + wheel or pinch zooms, Shift + wheel pans, F fits everything. Space plays, Delete removes the selection, arrow keys move it.

About this tool

Joins video clips and photos into one video, with a crossfade, a dip to black or a wipe between them, layers video, logos and pictures on top, mixes music underneath, and writes the result in the format you choose. The timeline is laid out the way Premiere's is, video tracks above the audio tracks, with each clip's sound under it where it can be detached and edited apart, and more tracks of either kind added as needed. Drop the clips onto the timeline, trim each to the part you want, pick a transition where two meet, and watch the whole thing before you export. The picture is composed in your browser and encoded by its own video encoder, so what you see in the preview is what the file gets.

How to use it

  1. 1Drop videos or photos onto the Video lane. Each becomes a clip after the last; a photo shows for five seconds until you trim it.
  2. 2Drag a clip's edges to trim it, and drag a clip left or right to change the order. Select a clip to choose the transition into it and how long it lasts.
  3. 3Each clip's sound sits on track A1 under it, linked. Select the clip and press Detach audio to trim, move or fade the sound on its own, or mute A1 to silence every clip.
  4. 4Drop a video, logo or picture onto V2 or a higher track and drag it into place on the picture, resize it, turn it, or tile it; drop music onto A2 and fade it with the dots on its corners. Any clip can be rotated a quarter turn at a time.
  5. 5Pick a format, size and frame rate, then export.

Good to know

Encoded by the browser, not uploaded

Every frame is drawn on a canvas from the clips, the transition and the images, and handed to the browser's own H.264 encoder through WebCodecs, which uses the machine's video hardware where it has any. The sound is mixed by the same audio engine the Audio Editor uses. FFmpeg only joins the two, or converts the result to a container other than MP4. The file is read into memory by your own browser and processed there, so it is never uploaded and never reaches a server.

The transition is an overlap

Choosing a crossfade, a dip or a wipe pulls the clip back over the end of the one before it by the transition's length, and the sound crossfades over the same seconds. It can be at most half of the shorter of the two clips and five seconds, so a frame is never more than two clips deep.

Clips of different shapes

The first clip decides the picture's size and shape. A clip or photo of another shape is fitted inside it with black bars rather than cropped or stretched, so a portrait phone clip after a landscape one keeps its whole picture.

Length and size

A project can be up to ten minutes long. The encoded video is held in memory until it is written, so the size estimate under the export button matters: at the default quality, 1080p costs about 46 MB a minute and 720p about 21 MB. Exporting a minute of 1080p usually takes about as long as the minute itself, because each frame is fetched from the source video one at a time.
